Jane Shackelford McCrady papers, 1883-1931.

Papers consist of correspondence and other papers of Jane S. McCrady and Louis DeBerniere McCrady, and a photograph. Correspondence (1883-1931) concerns personal and family affairs, genealogy, business and financial affairs, and other matters. Included are many letters of Louis DeBerniere McCrady from Charleston (S.C.), Flat Rock (N.C.), and elsewhere to Jane S. McCrady, and many letters to her from her children, including John McCrady, Louis McCrady, and Emily S. McCrady. Letters (1892-1905) to Jane S. McCrady from her cousin Joel W. Shackelford in Denver (Colorado) concern family matters and Shackelford genealogy. There are also letters (1931) to Jane S. McCrady concerning Shackelford family history from Franklin Shackelford Moseley in Montgomery (Ala.) and Dallas (Texas). Also included are letters (1909-1910) of Thomas W. Bacot regarding financial matters. Other papers consist of financial records, including stock certificates (1883), a collateral note (1894), receipts, and checking account statements; property records (1853-1910) pertaining to Jane S. McCrady's property at Legare and South Bay streets in Charleston (S.C.) including deeds, a bill of foreclosure, an abstract of title, a conveyance, mortgages, receipts, and related correspondence; insurance policies (1886-1920); a copy of the will (1904) of Louis DeBerniere McCrady; copy of the will of Jane S. McCrady; an agreement (1918) between Jane S. McCrady and her son John McCrady regarding the remodeling of her house; blueprints (n.d.) of a house in Charleston (S.C.); and chemical analyses of iron ore deposits made by Allard Memminger. Oversized photograph (n.d.) is of a group of soldiers in full militia dress; one of the individuals is Edward McCrady (1802-1892) or Louis DeBerniere McCrady (1851-1910).
